MEET ROSILINNE

Yesterday I left work feeling I needed to head over to the mall and go to a store where I had met a sweet single mom in one of the stores. I gave her a Book of Mormon and challanged her to read it and find if it was true for herself. My prompting to the mall, I figured was just to follow up with her. She was there and she had started to read and admitted that the past week, she got all through 1 Nephi and had felt a difference in her life. It was wonderful to reconnect with her! I left her store with yet a 3rd hat and felt I was good to go over to the Church. I figured she was my only reason for going to the mall. And anyone who really knows me KNOWS I hate shopping with a passion. I almost rather go to the dentist! So there was no reason to stay any longer at the mall.

As I walked out of the mall, I noticed 3 boys dressed in black with piercings all over and black spiky hair, walking in front of me. In front of them was a woman in an electric wheel chair. I didn't think she was moving fast enough for these boys and I was curious how they would react to her. They all cut in front of her as she tried to make the handycap door open... and then, after they cut in front of her, one held the door open so this woman could get through. I could not help but smile at their kindness. They held the door open for me too and I remarked to them that we needed more people in the world that are considerate of others. What I thought were boys, turned out to be men! I was impressed by their kindness.

Well, I got talking to this woman and just felt drawn to her. The past few weeks I have prayed over feeling like I was not a great neighbor because I am just never home to care for those who live around me. And I have expressed my desire to care for those wiser in years then myself.

My heart has been turned in stores whenever I see a sweet older man/woman sitting with their grocery cart--I find myself making sure they catch my wide grin as I walk by. I have had quite a few sessions of prayer letting the Lord know I really want to be my brothers keep and love those around me. Well Ros was the answer to much prayer.

Rosilinne fell asleep while driving back in 1993 and was hit by a bus. When she was taken to the hospital she had so many things broken and messed up the doctors could not believe she was alive.

She told me of her struggles to get better. She spent almost a year in the LDS hospital trying to have her body rebuilt. And yet, here this peppy woman was at the Mall-- in her electric chair--buying flat bread (that you can find in the food court) for her sister's family of 8. She told me she often comes for several hours to the mall and goes and watches movie after movie just to get out of her place. She told me how she loved transformers and thought that Star Trek was quite good. Ros is paralyzed on her left side (complications from the accident and a stroke) but here this peppy little lady was out living life to the fullest! She told me how people tend to not know what to do with her because her body would make you think she was a vegetable. But she loves them anyway and tries to help them understand that she is quite capable.

It started to rain so we went back into the mall court and for an hour just talked while we waited for her bus to come.

Ros was a school teacher and after her accident she still tried to help trouble teens. She would often tell them, "You are not going to recognize me when I am resurrected because I am going to be one hot chick!" I got a great chuckle out of that and told her I might have to adopt the same thought.

We talked of great things and then she told me that she went to the temple every week. I was surprised a bit by this because of her limitations with her physical body. I asked her why she did this, and she told me that when she dies, she doesn't want Jesus asking her, "Ros, what did you do with your life". So faithfully every week Ros goes to the temple with her sister. She does 2 or 3 sections in a row!

With tears in her eyes she commented that she hoped that Heavenly Father would recognize her desire to do something with her life even though it was very difficult and sometimes quite painful to accomplish even the basic tasks.

My cup was filled! We exchanged info and I watched her bus pick up her electric chair and then drive away. I had to say a pray of thanks for meeting such a determined woman. A woman who was living her life, not just existing.

That was last night... and then this morning, as I am waiting in the lobby of the Timp temple to do initiatory (45 min wait to even get into the locker room) I looked up from Moroni 7 to see a woman shuffling very slowly past me. I stood up and quite loudly said, "Ros?!! IS that you?!" And there after 20 secs of just trying to make her body turn towards me--it was Ros!! What a fun, unexpected reunion!

This week I have been studying in Moroni and I love the words written there... having a determination to serve him to the end.
What an example the Lord placed before me last night and this morning--Rosilinne IS determined to serve the Lord UNTIL the end. Even when life is quite difficult, she is still serving, hoping, praying, believing, and smiling wherever she goes.

Can I say the same for me?!

REJOICING ALL WEEK!

There are many things I have been rejoicing over this week!

RS RETREAT - EAST BAY 3

Last Friday and Saturday we had our first RS retreat. Mom and Dad were so kind to let us come crash their place. They were willing to serve and help the whole time, for which I was very grateful. There were nearly 40 of us there!
We had 43 set in stone to come and another 5 maybes, but 40--for a retreat we didn't tell them too much info about?! Amazing mercies! Bishop through the whole prep time and actual event, was such a great supporter. When ever I feared what I was doing with the girls or what direction I was taking them, he was cheering me on. I have an amazing Bishop and his family...they are equal to his amazingness! (ha, is that even a word? Well for my purpose, it is now!! ha ha)

The enrichment board really stepped up and did great things! I was so proud of them! We had a stroll to the knoll Sat morning and Camila gave a great devotional! She asked us to feast upon the words of Christ. Other then being really cold because of all the wind, the girls were all troopers!

Meg and Karen taught us how to do bracelets so we could remember to be unified - with Christ - (The bead in the bracelet) in our center. They did a great job making our bracelets a symbolic tool to look at! I was impressed with the girls for getting their bracelets done. They all looked really good!

Citlalli had us do some different dances from our cultural backgrounds. Latoya started with a little Jamaican love- That was a lot of fun to see her moves. Then we had April show her hoop dance! She was really nervous at first but as she continued on her dance, her confidence grew.
How true that is for all of us. At first we start with something we are very nervous. Our Church attendance, a relationship, a calling... but the more we dive into the "whatever", The more our confidence grows! I was moved by how graceful she danced. It is defiantly in her blood! She did an awesome job teaching the girls the moves.

We had two gals with us that had just recently come in from Venezuela. I don't think they have ever been around the LDS culture but they jumped right in and showed us how to really move! H

There was a time, when almost every girl was out on the dance floor. Just dancing away. I jumped on a chair to get a better view. I was overcome with emotion. So many different cultures coming together as one! All I saw was a sea of love. I actually had to jump off the chair because the emotion was so overwhelming. Oh if other groups of people could have just been in the room with us. They would have felt it too. We were "one" that morning! No "ites" among us. It was beautiful!

Citlalli left us with a beautiful message about how we are all needed. God has a place/role for each of us. And when we come all together, he can work his masterpiece through us. The spirit was beautiful.

Then it was a little secret sisters out on the porch before leaving home.

DOWN I WENT!

As we were all in the cars, getting ready to go sing happy birthday to a 95 year old... I ran to check on the empty seats in a car--and as I was running I caught a big dip in the cement. And then just like the movies, it was slow motion as I tried to get my footing under control. NOPE-! I was going down. I hit the pavement and thought, "oh that hurt". My camera which has served me faithful for 4 years, bounced and rolled and stopped dead! Literally dead. Sad. I quickly rolled over to my back. My leg was in major pain and I could not feel two of my fingers. Thank goodness this happened in front of girls and not boys! Ha ha, it was embarrassing enough. All the girls told me to take it easy. I turned over and got right up. I tried to shake everything off. I went back to the car limping quite bad. My leg started to shake almost uncontrollably. I thought I was going to pass out. I breathed for a min and then got in my car. My fingers had turned purple on the ends. And I actually bumped them once and thought I might faint from the pain.

The rest of the day was hard to move from the blow of my leg. But let me tell you what a miracle happened! Nothing looked out of order on Sunday Monday or even Tues. I wondered why my leg hurt so badly , but there was hardly anything visible to my skin. Then Wed came!!! I was getting ready for work and I looked down at my leg... only to find the whole thing bruised! My foot is swollen, and is purple and black on both sides. Then all the way up my chin and my whole left side of my leg is one huge bruise. I am talking about 15 inches by 7 inch bruise! And it is for this cause I can not stop rejoicing!! NO BROKEN BONES! And although I can't feel the end of my pinky finger any more, there were no cracks, no breaks, not splits in my skin! Just one amazingly huge bruise!

My foot looks worse then my leg and my foot hasn't hurt for one moment! I don't understand the logistics of this miracle, but I know it is nothing short of a miracle. I now look at my leg and I rejoice seeing it so colorful because it just goes to show how much worse it could have been, and should be now! BUT IT IS NOT! !

Yes, I still am like an old women every time I kneel to say my prayers and I wont' lie, my leg is in awesome pain when touched, but if I don't touch it, I am fine! And my purple/blue swollen ankle and foot- I can jump on it and not feel a thing!!! that is amazing! God is soo good!! :D

BIRTHDAY SONG FOR MICKEY

My mom and dad had visited a friend's mom that was 95 years old. She was just a couple cabins down the road. They told me how great it would be if I would take my girls over to see this woman. I wanted to go, but the thought of making them all come - (after leaving the cabin a little over an hour late) seemed more then I could ask them to do. So I took my car load and motioned for them to keep driving. But one by one, their cars all stopped at the house and we ran up to go sing happy birthday to Mickey, this 95 year old woman none of us had ever met before. I was over come with gratitude for such kind girls! But then to see her face....she could not believe so many people who didn't know her would sing her happy birthday. Her emotion was visible and she cried as each girl climbed the porch to give her a hug.

I imagined if I had nearly 40 random girls at my porch singing to me I probably would have had the same reaction. Many of the sisters commented how that was their most favorite moment of the whole retreat--seeing this woman be so touched.

There is so much to do for the "one"! There could not have been a more filled sister in the gospel anywhere on the earth! I am surrounded constantly by God's elect. And His tender mercies. Oh to the parents that had such an inspired assignment. Oh to the girls that, although we had gone over time with our retreat, were willing to stop, sing, and then hug a complete stranger! I was surrounded by leaders all weekend. And the love was consuming.

To top the night off, we had an amazing stake conference. I must admit, my spiritual/emotional/physical pools were quite exhausted but I was thankful the Lord helped me in the meeting. Afterwards, Bishop invited all he could grab to go out for dessert. He and Becca ended up buying a few of us dinner (we had not eaten a meal since noon and we were all quite hungry.) This was such a choice moment for me. I have been able to study how Bishop and Becca are towards each other, and have heard their inspired insights about their thoughts with marriage (although Becca would just claim it is the normal way to be :) ) But here 3 other girls were able to learn from Bishop Larson and Becca. It was a very choice moment. My cup runneth over and I am going to need to switch to a bucket soon!

Rejoicing all week! Can you blame me?!

WE ARE TO DREAM!

As one last thought, I listened to this talk from Elder Holland. I freaked out because it is the first time in all my studding that I have heard an apostle talk about dreaming/setting our own dreams.
“God expects you to have enough faith and determination and enough trust in Him to keep moving, keep living, keep rejoicing. In fact, He expects you not simply to face the future (that sounds pretty grim and stoic); He expects you to embrace and shape the future--to love it and rejoice in it and delight in your opportunities.“ God is anxiously waiting for the chance to answer your prayers and fulfill your dreams, just as He always has. But He can’t if you don’t pray, and He can’t if you don’t dream. In short, He can’t if you don’t believe.” Jeffrey R. Holland
After reading it, I was filled with a new resolve to keep dreaming for a marriage that is centered in Christ and service. And keep dreaming that I can overcome/lay aside all sins that so "easily doth beset" me.

I got home late from the office last night and as I pulled open my scriptures to read one quick verse I opened to Alma 7:15. I wept because I know that it was not chance that I read the verse. And again when I woke up, the verse was the only thing on my mind.
Yea, I say unto you come and fear not, and lay aside every sin, which easily doth beset you, which doth bind you down to destruction, yea, come and go forth, and show unto your God that ye are willing to repent of your sins and enter into a covenant with him to keep his commandments, and witness it unto him this day by going into the waters of baptism.

Beset means=attack on every side/harass/surround. And that is surely what my sins do! Alma says to lay them aside every sin "which easily doth beset [me], which doth bind [me] down to destruction..."

That verse was for me. Now, lest someone read this and think one of two different thoughts, 1.)how can Bryndi have such heavy sins--oh bad thinking. I am human and have some ugly weaknesses I am pleading to over come. 2.)And no they are not the type of sin I would need to confess to a priesthood holder, nevertheless, they are things that easily beset me and I want to LAY THEM ASIDE--every one! And I only can do that through the atonement of Jesus Christ. I don't fully understand how it all works, but I am moving forward with faith.

SO--I AM A DREAMER! I dream for a day when I will hook up with someone who will let me be myself around him. I dream for the day when I can be sealed in the temple. I dream for the day when I have children to teach about Christ. I dream for the day when my kids will first show signs of applying the gospel to their life. I dream for the day when I am down in size. I dream for the day when I will have conquer my un-orderly habits. I AM married. I AM fully in love with my spouse. I AM a mother. I AM down in size. I AM a teacher of Jesus to my children. I AM an orderly homemaker!

There is power in I AM! I AM a layer down of all (my) sins. Thanks for teaching me this concept dad.

I AM A DREAMER!

"WATER, I NEED WATER"

Last night was such a special night in the temple. Every time I go I love it, but tonight was consuming, (in a good way.) Stake conference is this weekend and the whole stake presidency joined our ward temple night. I was filled with admiration and spilling love. As I looked around the endowment room there were many faces from our stake. My heart was full as I thought about the chance to enter into God's presence with such wonderful people-my brothers and sisters in the gospel. I longed for all my friends, family and my ward to be with me. We all need the temple in our life.

A woman got out of her seat and mumbled that she needed something. I couldn't quite make out what she said, but I noticed how awful she looked. She was white and she could barely stay standing. I thought she might pass out. Sweet Sister Born took her out and I heard the woman say, "Water, I need water". Sister Born offered her juice (I am sure because of how completely off this woman looked.) She just kept saying, "No, I just need water, I need water".

Within 5 mins the sister came back with a little glass of water. She sat down. And like my friend from a few days ago, it was a complete night and day change. This woman was revived! The color was back in her face and she was not wobbly on her feet.

This woman knew what she needed - water.

One of my favorite stories in the New testament - okay so I have lots, but on my "lots" list--I have listed is John 5:

2 Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches.

3 In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.

4 For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.

5 And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.

6 When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?

7 The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.

8 Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.

9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.

This picture hangs in my room. It is the one art piece that I have spent actual money on getting framed! It is one of my most favorite paintings.
Impotent means = lacking bodily strength or physically helpless, no power (dictionary.com). An angel troubled the water so that whenever the water would move, the first person in the water was healed of whatever infirmity they had.

One man sat by the edge of the pool for 38 years. When the Savior, who knew how long the man had been waiting by the pool, came over him, He asked the man how 'Wilt though be made whole'. The man then told him his story of having no one to help him into the pool. Jesus tells him to rise and take up his bed and walk. (I love the fact that he does this on the Sabbath! Great insight to what our Sabbath days should be filled with--HEALING! How can we know how long someone has been in their condition if we are not visiting/going to where they are. Oh, too good! I will have to leave this awesome Sabbath example for anther day.:))

If you will look closely at this picture, what do you notice about the water?
It is like a sheet, no ripples at all. I had a wise teacher point out WHO is Christ?--He is the Living Water. Ask yourself then: How often is Christ's water moving?

Always!

!!!

This man waited by the pool for 38 years. How long do I wade through my afflictions/infirmities -- waiting for the moving of the water, when really I just need to go to the true source!

In a different view, maybe we are called to bare a curtain situation/trial burden for a longer period of time then we would like. This man's trial was 38 years long. There are folks in the scriptures with similar stories. The woman in Matt had an "issue of blood" for 12 years! Sometimes our Gethsemane can last for years.

I have a dear friend, whom I love, that has Lupus. Among the physical trials of this disease--recently his kidneys have threatened to fail. One evening as he laid on his couch he wondered how he could go on. He was ill, and felt he might even die. Following a prompting, he was led to read this quote:

“I recognize that, on occasion, some of our most fervent prayers may seem to go unanswered. We wonder, ‘Why?’ I know that feeling! I know the fears and tears of such moments. But I also know that our prayers are never ignored. Our faith is never unappreciated. I know that an all-wise Heavenly Father’s perspective is much broader than is ours. While we know of our mortal problems and pain, He knows of our immortal progress and potential. If we pray to know His will and submit ourselves to it with patience and courage, heavenly healing can take place in His own way and time.”

-Russell M. Nelson, “Jesus Christ—the Master Healer”

Very ill and not knowing if he could make it, his home teachers came over and gave him a blessing. He still doesn't know what the outcome will be, but if you talked to him, you would never know how much he suffers--for gladness and trust in God is all that he will let escape his mouth. I was deeply moved after hearing his courage and his optimism in God's plan for him--even in the mist of his suffering.

In whatever we are called to bare-may we keep the faith as we "bare" it for however long.

Or maybe we are not waiting by the water at all, but someone round us/near us is! Am I helping them to Christ? Am I sensitive to the infirmity they have?

We are all impotent to an extent! = lacking bodily strength or physically helpless, no power. We all need "water"!

So it is for our life. Christ is our water source: He is the Living Water! The water which if we partake of, we shall have eternal life! His water is ever lasting and always renewing. He is the one true reviver, He can satisfy our thirst and bring "life" into our lives! He can satisfy our wants, He can sooth the waves of our sorrow, He can calm the storms of contention and He can cause us to walk-on/get through impossible venues, even the ones that seem to last forever. He is the one true fount! His water is healing.

...every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters. (Isa. 55: 1 (2 Ne. 9: 50)
...they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters. (Jer. 2: 13)
...asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. (John 4: 10)
...any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. (John 7: 37)
...lead them unto living fountains of waters. (Rev. 7: 17)
...I will give unto him . . . of the water of life freely. (Rev. 21: 6)
...fountain of living waters, or . . . the love of God. (1 Ne. 11: 25)
...partake of the waters of life freely. (D&C 10: 66)
...same shall be in him a well of living water. (D&C 63: 23)

He can cause us to BE WHOLE. Now whether we are made whole from an actual physical infirmity or made whole from:

bad habits
addictions
depression
sadness
lusts
vices
anger
rudeness
doubt
despair
misery
grief
judgment
bad thoughts
unbridled tongue

...whatever it is-His water is always moving. . .He is always healing.

Back to the woman in the temple. All she had/wanted was water, and when she drank, the color came back into her cheeks and her physical body came back into order. The effect of the water was immediate! When offered juice, she knew it would not satisfy. She knew the source she needed to drink from and she did drink--and was made whole.

So it is for me! I know what "true" source will satisfy.

"Water, I need water" = LIVING WATER! :D

AND SHE WAS MADE WHOLE

Phone call came, "Bryndi, I am in my car, I can't move." My friend for whatever reason became completely ill when she got to her car after work this morning. I hurried over while calling her fearless home teacher.

I found her, in her car, with literally pools of sweat, beaded upon her face. She had her coat on and although she needed to take it off, she didn't have strength to move. I pulled her up and I am pretty sure I could have rung out her coat. She had a fever and things didn't look that good.

I had an instant flash back to last year when my dad insisted that he go sit in his car in the parking lot. He was cold and could not get warm. He had just finished a round of Chemo and his levels were not doing good. I went and sat with him in his car. The windows were down and thank goodness for the slight breeze that could be felt ever so often--if I held really still. (I was sweating like a pig!) But my Dad seemed to be enjoying the heat and feeling warm.

After 20 mins of sitting in the car, I decided I needed to take my Dad home. He was not doing well. I went over to his side door and as I tried to help him get up, the beads of sweat from his new found fever penetrated his shirt and garments. With a glazed look my Dad struggled to get out of the car. I had to help him figure where to put his feet. He got out of the car, and I had not clued in to how "out of it" he was. I started to walk him around to the passenger door. I was holding him like we were dancing because he just didn't have the strength to walk by himself. He started to shake and wobble. In an instant I knew he was going to fall. I knew his legs were going to give out but I also knew I didn't have the strength to keep him from hitting his head on the assault. As I felt his legs start to give way, I cried vocally to God pleading for help in setting him down. One foot, one leg, the next thing I knew was I had my dad sitting on the assault at this point he completely passed out--my arms could only lean him so far back--I would have to have him fall to the ground. I held his limp arms as long as I could. I cried as I finally just had to let him fall.

I had seen Marshyl in the building helping Debbi at the top of the elevator. Leaving my Dad in the parking lot I ran in the building and yelled for my brother to come. He did come, and he came quick. Friends called the ambulance while my brothers gave him a blessing that immediately brought him back to being coherent. It was several long nights in the hospital after that, but he was going to be okay.

Seeing my friend in the car made me have a flash back of of this experience.

Based on my dads short walk around the car before he passed out, I knew I had to pull up my car close to shorten the steps she would have to take.

The home teacher came and helped my friend into her house. He then ran to the store getting some items she didn't have, but needed. As she lay on her bed with her crazy physical illness I pondered what to do. I find that one of my greatest weaknesses is being a logical thinker. Sure when it comes to the gospel--no problem! Scriptures, even better... but knowing what to do in a crisis/heavy needs situation--it is just not in me to be brilliant with what to do on the spot.

Her conditions seemed to worsen, and yet I remained at peace. I prayed telling the Lord that I was scared and didn't really know what I should do. The answer came, "move forward". I figured that the Lord knows I only know how to do a few things in a crisis - seek for priesthood brethren and pray - so I moved forward with that.

After a handful of calls and texts I found a brother who could help. This brother joined the church a few years ago and I know that he has amazing faith. He went right to work on finding a companion to help with the blessing.

Mean while my friend's home teacher and I went out to get the things done that she had to accomplish that day. While we were out, I received a text from my friend's visiting teacher. She was asking for my friend's address. I smiled as I wondered if the Lord had inspired the visiting teacher to think about my friend. When we came back, the visiting teacher had dropped off a note! Even in the very moment of my friends battle! (God is amazing!)

We left my friend for only a little over an hour... but when we came back, her conditions had worsened.

While laying in her bed because she physically didn't have the strength to get up, a priesthood blessing was given. I felt the spirit fill the room. She was commanded to become whole and that through her faith her body would come into order.

After the blessing, we moved her off her bed and over to her chair. Her dry clothes that we had changed when we first got there were now soaked through like her first set. The brothers and I walked outside to discuss some items that still needed to be taken care of.--Here I was, surrounded by three amazing brothers in the gospel. Who swooped in to give aid, when THEY received the call! I walked back into my friend's house, only to find a completely different friend! Her fever had broken. She was ready to eat. She even had strength to sit herself up!! She was no longer sweating, but her body for the most part felt normal to the touch! Complete 180!! MIRACLE!

God put 20 little miracles together to make my friend whole!

*Friend was able to make a phone call asking for help.
*Home teacher JUST finished class.
*Although I had many projects at work, my most pressing one was turned in at 11 AM.
*Friend stayed coherent while sweating in her car.
*Was able to get her into my car without having her pass out.
*I NEVER EAT/BUY CHERRIES, and for the first time, I had a bag of cherries on me which helped give my friend a quick energy source.
*Home teacher went shopping for groceries
*In the middle of the day--two young adult--busy kids were able to give a blessing!
*My friend's car had to get a lot of stuff done to it today to pass the emissions test, and the fearless/faithful home teacher knowing what questions to ask to find the best deal for my friend--my friend who is limited on funds and had she gone to fix the car herself, she would have spent 70$ (which money she didn't have) for a job that her home teacher got finished for 35$!
*Visiting teacher left a note at the peak of my friend's "hell".
*within 10 she was completely whole after a blessing.
*I didn't have horrible anxiety.
*The Lord helped me move forward even when I could come up with no game plan--he had the play figured out and wanted me to trust and to "move forward" even when I didn't know how to move forward.

!!!!

To my priesthood brethren who responded to the "call"--and not only the call to give a blessing, but the call for help...I am deeply touched and stand all amazed.

I have no idea why I am writing this other then to testify that I know that God lives. And I echo the words of Moroni and claim them as my own:

...behold, I will show unto you a God of miracles, even the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob; and it is that same God who created the heavens and the earth, and all things that in them are. (Morm. 9) 11

I know that Jesus is the Christ. I know that the priesthood power is given to men for the benefit of all mankind. I know that God can and does preform miracles in our every day lives. Great and small.

I believe in miracles, for I have seen too many to number.

To anyone reading--what miracles have you seen today? And if you feel like you have seen none, take off your eyes of the world and look with your spirit eyes. Do you see them!? Because they are there!

I took this picture when I was in CA.

Just a fun beach shot--nothing special right?! Look again--

Did you notice those words the first time? You can click on this picture and pull up a larger image--a photoshop tweak you say--well for this photograph yes... but this picture is true to our every day lives. The miracles are all around us. God does not leave our lives up to chance. THERE ARE NO COINCIDENCES IN LIFE! Our merciful Heavenly Father is into the details. And through his details, come miracles great and small! Bet if you look at this picture again, your eyes NOW spot the "Miracles". What a lesson for us! We just need to train our eyes/heart to "spot" the miracles--because they are there: regardless of our inability to see/notice them.

DO WE SEE THE 'GOD' SIDE?

This week I was impressed by the scripture in John 4:19.
"We love him, because he first loved us."

My pblessing talks about how I will love the Savior "because of His great love for [me]". I have often pondered over this statement and wondered how it all works. This week I was given a sweet insight to my may years of pondering.

I have a friend that no matter what I do, or the weaknesses I have, she loves me in spite of it all. (Ha, this should read, I have MANY friends who are like this! God keeps putting great examples in my life, to which I am not complaining!)

This past week I was overwhelmed with this particular friend's love and respect for me! So great was her loves effect on me that all I could think of was the scripture in John and the words from my pblessing. I love this friend a lot, but because she loved/s me first (meaning even when I may not deserve all her kindness/respect/love) when she loves me in spite of who I am, I find myself loving her completely/fully back. "We loved him, because he first loved us". I love her, because she first loved me. Now, I love this friend and if I could claim it, I would say, no, I am pretty sure I did love her "first":)--but I don't think that is what John is telling us. Even when there are many reasons to look at why not to love/show respect for a person, when someone still loves you in spite of it all, you can not help but love them back!

I texted this friend the scripture from John and thanked her for her love. Her text back to me was quite profound. She texted a thank you for "seeing the God side" of her.

I read the text over and over again. What a wise friend I have.

We all are children of God. We all have the potential to become as He is. And because we are his spirit children, we all have a deep "God side" to us/in us. We could choose to see the natural man, and always look for the things others are doing wrong. Ha, that is the easier way to live life because it seems to come so natural at times! (I speak for myself only.) It is very easy to be a fault finder, believe me I know this from experience. But what if we would see the "God" side of everyone, and and focus on that side instead? What would that do to our work environment? Or family surroundings, our school, our callings, our drives on the freeway/or rather the people that drive next to us on the freeway?! (I have to smile at that last thought. I can just see those of us with road rage--when someone cuts us off, we choose to see the God side in them--maybe the God side is "at least they didn't clip us while cutting us off"! :))ha ha.

My sweet friend's love for me proved she was seeing the God side in me, inspite of everything. And as as a result of HER love, I found myself wanting to be better and to step up to my eternal potential--step up with more determination to do what is right and to love others for who they are.

My friend texted me early Tues morning and since then I have come to see more "God" sides!

As I left the temple Tues, I noticed this white bus pull up and several "wiser in years" folks step off the bus. Most of them were already dressed in white.

I found myself feeling a profound love for the bus driver, whom I never saw and all of these seasoned brothers and sisters that were faithfully coming to the temple. And then my love was topped off as I noticed this particular set of temple goes. Did you notice them in the first picture?

One seasoned brother was pushing another seasoned brother up the walkway to the doors of the temple. What love! What a great God side to have. My heart was full!

On Wed I had to run to Home Depot for work and ran into a good friend. I met he an his wife when I was working overseeing the chaple in the temple two years ago. Every Saturday without fail I would notice this good couple come in. I marveled at their faithfulness to come on a Saturday night.

After Dec 07 I stopped working at the temple and did not have the opportunity to see this couple very much. But this last Christmas as I went to a fireside, here was this faithful couple. They shared with me their story of why they choose to go to the temple so faithfully. Their daughter - (to the right of me) has cancer and several other life altering inflictions in the body.

The Doctors many times have told them that their daughter would not live long. This sweet couple go to the temple every week for her. They have seen miracles come. And where the doctors said death would be near--her lungs, brain, and heart have kept on going, in spite of all the cancer and afflictions. This good couple will now travel to PA in the next week to have their daughter go through another risky surgery in the brain.

As I ask this Brother how he was doing he responded that the Bishop had prayed with he and his family, and they felt at peace. They will need to stay in PA for several months. I think of the family members that must stay behind... and the loving grandparents who will watch over the other kids while this faithful couple go to seek more relief for their bright eyed daughter. What an example they are to me!

It is amazing what pure love can do for someone, for family members...Christ-like love.

I have listened to Robert D Hales talk from General Conference about 5/6 times this week.
http://lds.org/ldsorg/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=2354fccf2b7db010VgnVCM1000004d82620aRCRD&locale=0&sourceId=9469230bac7f0210VgnVCM100000176f620a____&hideNav=1

He teaches how to be provident providers in our temporal and spiritual dealings.

His closing statement has stirred my soul. Elder Hales said, "I bear my special witness that through the Atonement He [Jesus Christ] has overcome all things."

I know this is a really duh moment for me, but my understanding of the atonement has broadened. Not only was the atonement an act that was preformed to give us a way to repent of our sins but "through" the Atonement Christ overcame everything. And has set the example for us... this means THROUGH His atonement, we too, CAN overcome all things!

Bishop help drive this point last night. He shared that the reason we have to take "time" to repent of our wrong choices is not to satisfy the "needs" of the atonement. The atonement needs no payment. It's grasp reaches the farthest/most lost/wondering sheep. What does need payment, is our souls!

Christ does not need us to suffer a specific amount of time as a payment for being able to use the atonement... rather, the time we spend repenting is for us. It is the time we NEED to cleanse our "infected" souls: an infection brought upon us because of our choice to sin. Repentance is for US, not to satisfy the atonement...

Beautiful truth Bishop! Deep.

So yes, as I read this blog, it is all for me, yet again! :) What power love can do. How amazing it is to choose to focus on the "God" side of someone, however difficult we may feel it is to do. And how wonderful to have the Atonement and repentance: TIME given to sanctify/reline our souls.

ARIVAL OF MIA BELLA!

Nyk's water broke on Friday night and by 4 AM Saturday morning I was well on my way to WY to be with her. Who would have thought a package of 6 12 and 19 inches could bring so much joy and wonder!?! It was very sacred for me to be there with Nyk.

Lots of times it was just Nyk, myself and the baby. Beautiful moments to sit and ponder and then talk of the things with/of the spirit/gospel.
We were able to listen to an amazing talk by Matthew Cowley, "Miracles" for our church devotional. This is an amazing talk! It has taken a place on my favorites list! And what a perfect add to our Sabbath day with little Mia!

http://speeches.byu.edu/?act=viewitem&id=135&tid=2

It was wonderful to be around such a pure innocent little girl. There is much hope for her future. Her pathway is bright! The gospel is on the earth! And she has parents that will teach her right from wrong and teach her about Jesus...!

It is a wonderful time to have a family! The truth is on the earth!

THE WORLD IS FULL OF FISHERS

I was driving to work this week and noticed a hawk circling an area over and over again. *Note, if you are watching a bird fly make sure you pull off the road before you decide to go into park! Cars will be much happier with you if you do this first.

I found the place the hawk was circling. I jumped out of my car and walked over to hide my bright red shirt under the covering of the trees. 5-6 more circles this hawk made swooping right above this little area of water. Here is the picture of the Hawk, can you see it? If not, here is a zoom in on the picture... see it now?!

I wondered why this hawk would be circling so precisely--and then I looked into the water. TONS of fish were making their way through the murky water. (Do hawks eat big fish?! I don't know! It seemed crazy for this field hawk to try for such a large fish, but still the Hawk dangerously circled.) I moved little closer to the fish, and the hawk must have spotted my red shirt because it flew away.

I then had 10 mins to just study the movements of all the fish. The water level was quite low. Every movement the fish made, I was able to see it move or a result of its movement-muddy puff clouds appearing.

They are just carp--you may say. Dirty, bottom feeders, oily meat--they are only good for catching cat fish my Dad tells me... and yet I was intrigued by their movement.

This week my heart has been touched by the fishers of men the Lord has brought into my life/view sight. Just the other day, a women was on the side of the road with a busted tier. As I drove past, I noticed a cop in his undercover cop car, stop and help take over her load. I played with a nephew who had a cardboard outfit on representing "Buzz light year". His Dad had taken the time to make him such a stylish suit! This little boy looked at me and said, "To infinity and beyond! Choose the Right"! What great mother took the time to instill such a simple truth-choose the right!? (A "fisher" mom, that's who!)

I talked with another nephew, 12 years old, he told me sometimes he has bad thoughts that just pop into his head... but on this particular day, he had prayed in the morning to have a good day and asked for the Lord's help. He said, "Bryndi, you know what? Some of those bad thoughts popped in my head today, but I immediately thought of a scripture and they didn't stay any longer." Oh to the parents of that little fish!

I have witnessed the kindness of a mother and her children, allowing to sacrifice some of their Daddy time, so he [the Daddy] could go help his sister and brother-in-law finish a basement room that was in need of some TLC remodeling.

I was called just this morning by a friend who wanted to drop off a mango to me at work, because she saw it in a Mexican store and knew it was a favorite treat of mine.

I have seen a girl love her family member, even when this family member gave her a black eye.

I saw a temple full of 19 ward members on ward temple night--putting forth their faith to accomplish a goal set by their bishopric.

I have seen fasting for loved ones, great time spent in the kitchen cooking a yummy meal.

I have seen garbage cans brought to the garages of the owners when the trash has come by.

I have seen sisters crying/praying over those they visit/have charge for.

I have seen friends have faith to ask God for help.

I HAVE SEEN GREAT FISHERS among men!

Oh to the mothers and fathers that raise their children to God! Oh to the person who helps the stranded person on the side of the road. Oh to the deacon president who after hearing the messages at Priesthood...went out that very week and brought his "brothers" back to church. Oh to the uncle who helps a clogged toilet, oh to the friend who is always there to listen, oh to the worthy priesthood holders who are always willing to give a blessing, oh to the one who sits/stays by the side of a widow, oh to the mother that waits up until after midnight just to make sure her child made it safely home, oh to the one that wakes up at 6:00Am on a Saturdays just to help a friend learn how to run, oh to the Dad that takes care of the kids on the weekend mornings just so his wife can get a few more winks in, oh to the nurse that goes the extra mile to make sure her patient is as comfortable as possible, oh to the teacher that prepares a great less--even for just one, oh to the parents who pray for their addicted son, oh for the 80 year old man that still takes his wife lovingly by the hand.... What great fishers we have among us!!

We may feel like we are just fishers in the sea of life. Same old tasks, day in and day out, not feeling we can amount to become anything great. But like that circling hawk wanting to catch something much greater then itself (in size) we too can becoming something greater then we are right now! The Lord can make us fishers--among His men!!

THE DEVIL'S FAVORITE TOOL

There has been way too much going on this past few weeks. God has been so good and kind. He never gives up on us! Thank goodness.

I wanted this story to share with a girlfriend today, and Mom was kind enough to type it up from her Grandma's (my great-grandma) journal history. This is a story that until today, I didn't know know the full details. How thankful I am for ancestors who wrote down their moments from God in their lives. This was very tender to me to read. So true to life.

Mary Ethel Bean Andrew--taken from her publishing of "Through the Years".

---
One time I was called to go over to visit a Relief Society at Montello Branch on the west side of Great Salt Lake. I had to go over the Lucin Cutoff on a train.
On the way home I had a strange experience.

As we were crossing the lake, I noticed an old man with a long white beard watching me from the other end of the car. He reminded me of Lorenzo Snow, but his beard was longer than President Snow’s and he had piercing blue eyes.

Finally he got up and walked slowly down the aisle toward me. He asked, “May I sit down by you, Sister?”

I said, “Certainly,” and moved over. I had a funny feeling when he sat down by me and when he started talking to me I really had a funny feeling.

“I have been watching you since you got on the train,” he said, “and I have something that will help you the rest of your life.”

I looked at him, and for a moment I didn’t know whether to get angry with him or not. Then I answered, “Well, if you have anything that will help me the rest of my life, I’d appreciate it.”

He put his hand in his inside pocket and pulled out a piece of paper. He said, “This will help you as long as you live if you heed it. Remember it, and when you think of it, remember me. I want you to have it. I spend my time going around like this, greeting people that I think need this, and I give it to them.”

The train was nearing Ogden and I didn’t see him when he left the car. I didn’t even see him get up and go. When I rushed out to the platform and asked about him, no one had seen him get off this train. The paper he had given me had the following story. . .

THE DEVIL’S AUCTION

The devil at one time had an auction. His tools were getting old and worn and he thought he needed a lot of new ones and he decided to have an auction.

He gathered them all together and put them out—and there was jealousy, greed, hate and envy and all of those—and every one was labeled. And he called the people to come and bid on them.

After awhile, most of them had been bought, but there was one in the back that had never been put out. It was an old, disreputable looking thing but it was still a tool, and one of the buyers walked over and said, “Why isn’t this one on sale?”

And the devil said, “I will never part with that. There isn’t enough money in the world to buy that. It works when nothing else will. If I can only get the little wedge of that tool in a person’s consciousness, the rest is easy. I wouldn’t part with that for all the money in King Solomon’s mines.”

“I notice this hasn’t even a name on it. What’s the name of this tool?”

The devil said, “Discouragement.”

--------------------------------

I told that story in the Assembly Hall at the first general conference I had to speak in after I was called to the Relief Society General Board, and it had such an effect on Mary Grant Judd that she told it to her father, President Heber J. Grant. This was during the time that pres. Grant was ill; and many times after that, Mary told me, when her father was discouraged and down he’d call her to his bedside and say, ‘Mary, I want you to tell me Sister Andrew’s story once again.”

And she said, “Sister Andrew, you have no idea how that affected him. That seemed sometimes to be the only thing that cheered him up a bit when he got helpless and couldn’t do anything.”

Mary Ethel Bean Andrew
– Through the Years –

(Heber J. Grant came to Grampy's mission in Germany. Grampy shot this picture as the prophet departed.)

I shared this with a few friends tonight. One shared the truth that "discouragement is paralyzing". How true. For when we feel it, our faith is broken down and we let the doubt/fears/disbelief creep in. We loose trust and perspective. It is one of Satan's most powerful tools. A selfish being could/would not give up or sell his one favorite device... a device that if allowed to creep in could bring about other harmful D's--despair, depression, doom, disbelief, doubt, darkness, destruction, death(spiritual), disaster.

Thank goodness for the "light" of the gospel/Jesus Christ which brings the happy D's: dedication, direction, determination, discipline, diligence, deliverance, day-light, dawn--into our lives!

Great lesson for me.

THE LINE

Grammy always used to tell tell me about "The Line". It was a tool that she used in her life to help her discover when her mood/attitude was in a place where the spirit could be her constant companion.

Often when we are trying to live right, we know when we have offended the spirit.

Grammy always used to say there is a line in our life. If we dip below the line we are in the negative feelings--these feelings leave us void of having the constant companionship of the spirit. It's okay to dip below the line, we just need to recognize when we do and have a game plan for how to get back above the line.

Grammy was masterful with music and she combined, I think, three different songs to use as her "game plan". When she found herself below the line she would sing 30 secs of these songs and with in moments she would find herself back above the line.

When I find I am below the line I will sing a hymn, read the scriptures, pray, or try to serve. As soon as I do, I find that I have faith and the "Goliath" I am facing is bare-able/do-able. It is above the line when the spirit is our constant guide. I find answers to prayers. And hope.

Brytt used to teach people on the mission about the line. He would come and find families who had put a string up on their wall and had sticky notes reflecting when they felt the spirit above the line, and then other sticky notes marking when they didn't feel the spirit--these sticky notes were below the line.

So when we given into "negative" moments/thoughts/actions in our lives, we must recognize that the spirit can not dwell with us and we must quickly make the changes to get back above the line. I know there are so many more feelings/emotions that can go above or below the line. If we will keep our Father in Heaven close, we need not dwell or live our lives below the line! We can live in the positive! We can find hope. We can have faith!

LIFE IS GOOD!

I love Mormon chapter 9! Vs 27 was the cause great reflection today.

27 O then despise not, and wonder not, but hearken unto the words of the Lord, and ask the Father in the name of Jesus for what things soever ye shall stand in need. Doubt not, but be believing, and begin as in times of old, and come unto the Lord with all your heart, and work out your own salvation with fear and trembling before him.

Don’t despise or wonder
BUT
Harken and Ask
Doubt not
Be believing
Come to the Lord with all your heart
Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

Love lists in the scriptures!

Today the word “shall” stood out to me. We are not told to ask for things only IF something comes up that we will need... we are told to ask for those things that we “shall stand in need” of. I know, I know, a real duh moment, but for me, it is like the Lord is letting me in on a “brief” for my life. “Bryn, you SHALL/WILL be in need of things, so make sure you ask for what you ARE in need of.” Times in the past, times now, and times to come, we will/shall have things we will/shall stand in need of.

Need of:
-faith to follow a prompting
-help to forgive
-knowledge to understand His will
-a way to get to the temple when our week is just going nuts
-help to make it through a stressful day/year/week
-help to overcome temptations
-guidance to make the right decisions
-loved ones to be blessed
-compassion
-mercy
-kindness
-getting through a semester of school
-work project
-help working with those who use their agency poorly
-help to know what to say to a guy when he calls (ha, I put that in there for all of us singles out there!) ha ha
-balance in our life
-patience with ourselves
-even more patience at times with others
...the list goes on and on and on and on and on!

We are going to stand in need of a lot of things. We will/shall!

We need to harken, and then ask.

I had a friend once ask why we need to ask God for things. After all He is our Father, He is all knowing...He already knows what we need and don’t need. But time and time again in the scriptures we are commanded to “ask”. In asking, we receive and build faith!

I have heard many times, “I don’t have the faith that it takes to pray.”

I disagree.

Aminadab teaches us a powerful lesson on praying. Hel 5:41 (The Book of Mormon).

Nephi and Lehi were cast into prison and had horrible things happen to them. They went “many” days without food (12). The servants of Limhi went to go slay them, but Nephi and Lehi were surrounded by fire. The earth shook, the bad guys trembled, a darkness comes and over shadows those in the prison. They all hear a voice 3 different times telling them to repent.

Those in the prison were pretty scared.

The scriptures tell us that Aminadab was a Nephite by birth and he once belonged to the church of God [he was a member but for whatever reason], but fell away (vs. 35).

During the time when the darkness was engulfing the men in the prison, they asked Aminadab what they could do to have the darkness lifted:

http://scriptures.lds.org/en/hel/5

40 And it came to pass that the Lamanites said unto him: What shall we do, that this cloud of darkness may be removed from overshadowing us?
41 And Aminadab said unto them: You must repent, and cry unto the voice, even until ye shall have faith in Christ, who was taught unto you by Alma, and Amulek, and Zeezrom; and when ye shall do this, the cloud of darkness shall be removed from overshadowing you.
42 And it came to pass that they all did begin to cry unto the voice of him who had shaken the earth; yea, they did cry even until the cloud of darkness was dispersed.
43 And it came to pass that when they cast their eyes about, and saw that the cloud of darkness was dispersed from overshadowing them, behold, they saw that they were encircled about, yea every soul, by a pillar of fire.
44 And Nephi and Lehi were in the midst of them; yea, they were encircled about; yea, they were as if in the midst of a flaming fire, yet it did harm them not, neither did it take hold upon the walls of the prison; and they were filled with that joy which is unspeakable and full of glory.
45 And behold, the Holy Spirit of God did come down from heaven, and did enter into their hearts, and they were filled as if with fire, and they could speak forth marvelous words.
46 And it came to pass that there came a voice unto them, yea, a pleasant voice, as if it were a whisper, saying:
47 Peace, peace be unto you, because of your faith in my Well Beloved, who was from the foundation of the world.
48 And now, when they heard this they cast up their eyes as if to behold from whence the voice came; and behold, they saw the heavens open; and angels came down out of heaven and ministered unto them.
49 And there were about three hundred souls who saw and heard these things; and they were bidden to go forth and marvel not, neither should they doubt.
50 And it came to pass that they did go forth, and did minister unto the people, declaring throughout all the regions round about all the things which they had heard and seen, insomuch that the more part of the Lamanites were convinced of them, because of the greatness of the evidences which they had received.

Okay, so I know I included the whole little blurb here, but it is such a good story! We even get to hear Heavenly Father speaking!

Did you catch in vs 41? Aminadab told the people in the prison they needed to “...repent, and cry unto the voice, even until ye shall have faith in Christ...” He didn’t say, “Use your faith TO cry/pray unto the Lord” He said repent, and pray/cry -UNTIL YE SHALL HAVE FAITH IN CHRIST--! When we pray, we gain/receive faith!

What a lesson for me when I have darkness shadowing areas in my life. Whether it is my own darkness brought on as consequences to my actions or the darkness brought about by others’ choices, or just the darkness of the day - no job, no money, no family, no kids, no love, no hope--whatever darkness I am facing... I can repent (for me it is usually about the grumbling/complaining/murmuring I do while in my particular darkness) and CRY unto Heavenly Father, and if I don't already have faith, I will gain faith faith in Christ through my prayers! Faith that eventually the darkness will be lifted.

Oh the wisdom of Aminadab! I always wonder how his story ends, does he make amends and comes back into the Gospel light?! Oh the power of the one!...for another day I will have to explore this Aminadab, a member of the church, obviously not active at the time of this amazing prison experience, but he was able to dig up and hold onto his spiritual/gospel roots again. He had the faith to speak up and tell his prison-mates what they needed to do. Had he remembered the his mother singing a song to help him remember, "We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost." :D (Fourth Article of Faith). What ever came back to him, someone had taught him something about the gospel and he was able to teach the whole prison how to pray! That had to have taken guts! Ah, for another day.

DO NOT FEAR - LIFE IS GOOD

This is something I have hesitated to share, for it is very sacred to me, but I share it in feeling I should. This happened to me while I was serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In sacredness I share this story.

New Jersey-Elizabeth-Morristown Mission
An Excerpt from my family email, with details added from my journals…11/3/05

I was sitting studding at my desk reading in the Book of Mormon about how all the people in the land gathered into one body so they could protect their selves from the Gadianton robbers. As I read and pondered on the story, I became really aware to the idea that there are tons of evil spirits all around us. I then started to wonder how many Satan had on me!? Fear came into my soul. I actually looked around the room I was studding in to see if I could see anything around me.

What happened next, I had a vision if I can call it that… I am not sure what it was?

All of a sudden I was sitting up in the corner of the room and I was looking down at myself studding at my desk. The girl studding/me, was not aware of anything around her/me. As I watched the surrounding, I noticed that there was a thick blackness covering the room. And in that blackness there were scary things… they seemed to be moving in on me. While I was watching this happen I knew that the girl at the desk, me, had no idea what was around her/me. I had this immediate fear swell up in me and I didn’t know what to do. I was scared. I wanted to warn this girl/me. The blackness was gathering closer.

But all of a sudden there appeared four large warrior looking guys that stood in a half circle around me at my desk. They had their backs to me and were facing all the darkness. Their arms were crossed. These warriors were muscular and had what seemed to be an armored skirt on… right to their knees, and armor slightly over their chests. (My first thought was Neiphite warriors.) They didn’t look alarmed/or concerned, but seemed to have a peaceful, confidence stare into the blackness. There was light, bright light coming off of them and the girl/me. And the girl at the desk/me still had no idea of the darkness around her/me and went on studding.

I saw this and had an immediate peace fall over me. The vision/whatever it was closed and I was back in my own body, looking down at my scriptures at my desk. I ran to go tell Sister Garbett and then knelt down and poured out thanks unto the Lord for showing me that vision/scene.

I don’t even know if I make sense… but it was amazing! We do have so many things around us that want to break us down and the devil is working hard at getting us to fall or give into temptation. BUT if we are doing those things those things that God would have us always do, reading the scriptures, praying, going to church, paying tithing, attending the temple often, fasting, often, ect… WE NEED NOT FEAR!!! God will protect us, and make if so we aren’t even aware of the ever glooming powers at Satan!!! (I do not share this story to say look at me, for that is not how it is… I shared this story that we all may remember the forces of good that surround us if we do the things the Lord asks. He will never forsake us, even when we do him at times.)

---
As I have spoken with some friends recently and have thought about the times we live in and trying to raise kids in such a corrupting world, I often reflect back on this experience and take great peace in knowing-- yes, we are surrounded by evil. Unkindness, selfishness, lust, appetites and unrighteous passions...It is all around us, but we need not fear.

As I drove around in the breath-taking rain storm today, I had this car in front of me. I grabbed my camera while chuckling.

This is a true statement! (Ha, I added the amen onto the bottom of the tire!) Life is good! And in the strength of the Lord we can do all things (Alma 20:4)! We can “BE believing” We need no/and can not afford room for doubt. We can gain and build our faith in Christ through repentance and through prayer!

This is a clip from on of my most favorite movies... Facing the Giants. (Yes a little cheesy at parts, but the message is amazing!)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vB59PkB0eQ

In the strength of the Lord! We don't give up. We keep going. We pray to Heavenly Father to help us. When our burdens become too heavy..."E'en though it be a cross that raiseth me...nearer my God to thee". Our crosses in this world raise us, closer to Him.

There is so much to be living for--for there was so much for Him to die/atone for!

Life IS good!

UNDERSTANDING THE BLOSSOMS

What an amazing week from God! Honestly, there is just not room or time enough to describe the workings of His tender mercies!

This past week when the snow storm hit, I admit, I went through the emotions of bitter and sweet. Sweet because I love fresh snow. Bitter because I love (almost more than fresh snow), blossoms on the trees. The blossoms, in just one week have, awwed the streets of Springville and Provo. The blossoms only stay a few short weeks, but this storm surely cut the life span of all the blossoms.

As I got into work and shook off the snow from my coat, I over heard some girls talking. Vanessa was concerned about the 3 blossom trees we have in the parking lot. She said when she got in to work, some of the tree's branches were sagging to the ground. So in an effort to save the trees, she went out and shook the limbs she could reach on each tree. Her hope was to get enough snow off so the tree branches wouldn't touch the ground. She talked about finding a broom so she could reach the higher branches. I thought that was a little on the extreme side. After all it was still heavily snowing outside. (Oh how wrong was I!)

I didn't think any more of what I heard and went to start my work.

By the end of the day, the snow had already started to melt from the 24 hour dump that had just occurred. The sun was shining and the birds were singing. I pulled out of the parking lot and headed for my church building, when not even driving 30 secs, I started to realize the magnitude of the snow storm. I found several trees that had been badly broken. Whole massive branches had been broken in half. I started seeing so many that my heart became sick.

I pulled my car over (mind you there were no shoulders on the road I was driving and I made quite a few cars not so happy with me) but I just had to take pictures of the damage done by one snow storm.

Blossom trees, pretty developed, had significant gashes from where their branches had become too heavy from the snow.

My heart was sick. On this one particular tree, this huge branch, full branch, had broken off. As I drove down the road, I started seeing more and more trees like this. It was a common occurrence. By the end of the night without hesitation I can say I counted well over 50 blossom trees that had some type of crack/brake in their branches.

I started thinking of all those people I love. Friends, family and particularly the Sisters in my ward. I pondered how we can all relate to these trees.

In the dead of winter, the snow comes, then ice storms... trees all lay dormant. I don't think I have ever seen a tree in the winter that has cracked or had a branch broken off. How true that is to life. When we are in our winter, refusing to open up our testimony or show our light or "open to God" the storms come and go and we are just a cold/lifeless tree. But it is when have the courage to open up unto god... when we find life in the gospel and living the commandments. That is our time to blossom!

I will finish that thought, but let me jump to the rest of the story.

Because I had seen all these broken trees, I was really anxious to see the trees at my work. The ones Vanessa had lovingly--shook.

The next morning came and on my drive to work from the temple, I was again sickened like the day before to see all the cracks and brakes--this time I was looking at 900 E Trees and not East Bay Blvd Trees. As I pulled up to work, I turned to look at the three trees we have in our parking lot.

Whole! One tree had a tiny brake (this is in comparison to everything else I had seen) and the other two were completely whole! WHOLE!! And yet on the very same street, 30 secs away in a car bigger and smaller trees had big cracks/brakes in them. But the trees in my parking lot were just fine!

Okay, okay, so you totally know where I am going with this! But nonetheless I am still going there!

VISITING AND HOME TEACHING!!!

You have someone that you have been called to watch over. Maybe someone strong in their testimony of the Savior. Maybe someone not so strong. Maybe someone who is still dormant in their faith. Maybe they just don't know that they know. Regardless of what state they are in, we are all like the blossom trees. Do we know when there is a storm in their life? Are we apart of their life enough to know when their branches are hanging low. Are we in contact and intune with the spirit when it comes to caring/watching/tending to their needs?

While I was stopped at a stop light I marveled with how full a couple of the blossom trees were.
I thought that these trees were just fine. No need to worry. They looked like they had survived just fine. Well that is what I thought until I searched the tree for any signs of breakage. Sadly, though the tree did a good job of hiding among all the blossoms, I found it, a brake in the upper top of the branches. Can you see the brake below? (You can click on the picture for a better view)

Go do the center of the picture then slightly over just a little to the left. Do you see it? I hadn't noticed it at first. But how true is this for all of us! Everyone is always dealing with something. They put on a beautiful full mask, but everyone has struggles of their own or are worried over others. Everyone is, or knows someone. So when I visit teach, am I sensitive to the un spoken/or unseen wounds/struggles/temptations/addictions/pains? Do I even care enough to know if they have those area's in their life?!

At a stop light, I saw a white blossom tree limb just laying on the side walk, broken--alone--lifeless.
Do I notice/or am in touch enough to know when someone is struggling--feeling broken--alone--lifeless?

Everyone has burdens! Friday as I left work I pulled down a street and saw this massive blossom tree broken in three different places.
The brakes were pretty huge! Any of us can fall. None of us are numb to the temptations of life, although that would be an awesome goal!! But even the strongest member needs to be nourished and feed by the good word of god. By teachers who really care about what is going on in their lives.

Okay, so you can see the passion I had with this 48 hour adventure. So impressed was I by Vanessa at work. And her little act of shaking off the tree limbs.

1. She was aware enough of the three trees in the parking lot to have concern for them when a storm hit.

2. She was aware enough of the trees/seeing them daily (and I know for us, we usually don't do daily, but being in enough contact that we know) to tell a difference in the perkiness/droopiness of ones branches.

3. She had concern enough to shake the limbs. This took extra effort. Defiantly not convenient to go out during a snow storm, trace through the snow, stand under a tree and shake the snow off limbs, which would in return dumb their [the tree's snow] snow on you. But she did it! (Some times promptings come to make a surprise visit or a call... or to go visit/check in even after your monthly visit has already been completed. But are we sensitive to their needs and the daily/weekly/monthly/yearly storms they face?)

I don't know how fun it is to be shaken--perhaps the tree thought, "Vanessa, what are you doing to me?! Leave me alone. I don't want you to shake my limbs." Thank goodness she did!

What happens when we meet others that for whatever reasons, have pretty big wounds from whatever...? Well we surely just don't leave their broken limb hanging!
I was shocked to find on Friday that many of these trees had not been taken care of. And as you can tell from this picture, because the limb was not cut off (taken care of), any added pressure, you can see how much further down this limb might brake/tare!

Going back to the new blossoms, when we are sensitive to those around us and get to know them, we will be able to notice when they are taking hold of gospel truths for the first time, or are reestablishing their commitment level. We will know because they will start to bloom and open unto the lord. And it is in/with these tender moments when we need to be extra mindful/watchful over their conditions and what we can do for them.

Friday morning, before work, I drove to the temple and awwed over the fact that I could not find one broken blossom tree at the temple. --! We include the temple consistently/frequently in our life and help it be a goal in the lives of those we teach--we will find that we can withstand the storms of life. The temple shields us with power. When we are reminded of our covenants that we make there, we become filled with greater desire to keep blooming to him! The temple must be a focus.

I will never look at a Blossom Tree the same.

STAKE MEETINGS-TEACH?!

After getting home on Friday somewhat late, I was excited to have a moment to myself to clean. But so strong was the impression that I needed to make a movie of what God had just taught me through the Blossom trees. I start

ed on the movie, somewhat reluctant because I really wanted to clean my place. Carson stopped by unexpectedly and what a treat it was to have him over. We haven't hung out just the two of us since before he and Nyk got married. It was so good for me to be around/talk with him.

Before he and Nyk headed back to WY, I asked if they wouldn't mind having family prayer with me. (Ha, the family was me and them!) But I felt impressed that we needed to have prayer and that Carson should be the one to say it. It was beautiful/sincere and I felt the spirit strongly. I must admit I was a little hesitant to ask them to pray with me, but that thought only lasted for a sec! Prayer, I feel, is one of the most powerful tools one can have in their life. IF we can stay true to sincere communion with God then we will be open/worthy for the spirit to dwell with us, we will be able to be better at remembering Him and I believe we will have a desire to be and do good. Okay, little plug in for PRAYER IS AMAZING! DO IT!

After Chick and Carson left I felt I needed to head back to putting together the movie. Around 9:30 I noticed I missed a call from the Stake RS President, Sister Hutchison. I called her back and she asked if I would give the closing prayer in our stake meetings the next morning. After agreeing, I am not sure how we got talking, but I mentioned I went to the RS training up in SLC and how excited I was with the things Julie B. Beck had talked about. Sister Hutchison excitedly asked if I would speak at the end of the meetings and asked if I could type up my notes from the Salt Lake meeting. I agreed, hung up the phone and went back to putting together the movie. 1:30 AM came and I went to sleep happy that the Lord had put together what I felt was a significant clip.

6 AM came all too quick, but I was up and out on the track with Jinger. It was walk 6 mins and jog one min training. We are just at the start of training for a 10 K . Mind you I will not be running in a race, but I want so badly to learn how to jog and the Lord has provided Jinger as an answer to my prayer. When I got home, I had a little over an hour to shower/get ready and make the handout for the stake meeting.

As I jumped out of the shower I felt impressed that I needed to show the movie clip at the stake meeting. Mind you, this meeting was for training the RS presidencies about Visiting Teaching. And when the Stake President called me the night before she had no intentions of asking me to teach/share what I had learned from the Salt Lake training...How could I now call her and tell her I wanted to play a clip at her meeting. Talk about inviting yourself to take over! (So NO WAY, was my thought, but again, I know better then to go against an impression.)

I got the guts up (I admit I had to pray for the guts) and ask her if she wouldn't mind me sharing this little video clip. She said it was fine. (Few!) :) I know I am pathetic!

There was a knock at my door. I ran in my rob and hesitantly opened the door. It was Jinger with a little bag of banana bread slices. She had to run, but dropped them off and she asked/begged me to not back out on a commitment I had made. Her little service of bringing me 4 little slices of bread turned out to be a huge tender mercy of the Lord... I will finish this thought in a min.

So I am now 30 mins until the meeting started and I was just typing up my handout of notes. As I typed I kept stewing over the thought of how I didn't want to overstep my stewardship. Last min training at the stake meetings... showing a clip that they, the stake leaders, had not approved of first... I got a little sick at what others would think. And really more then that, I was worried if I was stepping over my bounds/stewardship.

As I was driving (3 mins to get to a a church 7 mins away) I pondered over if I could really do/should do this training. In my heart I just knew the meetings would go over and I would be asked to speak when everyone would be expecting to leave--oh I was completely un easy about the whole notion.

While I drove, I gratefully ate the two small slices of Jinger's banana bread. I thanked the Lord as I recognized his tender mercy. I was hungry from being up so early/exercising but had been too busy to grab a quick bite of anything. After the stake meetings, I knew there would be a little breakfast, but I was sure grateful for the slices of bread to give me something until then.

As I got on the freeway, the battle of what to do for the meeting still cankered my soul. And for whatever reason I leaned over the stirring wheel towards the windshield and looked up. And at that moment I saw what looked between a swan, crane, and pelican fly nearly on top of my car-on the freeway- and then fly away. There were no other birds to be found, and it was so quick and so different looking, that I still don't know what type of bird it was. But my heart immediately stopped it's battle. Here was my confirmation... I would follow through. I would show my clip and not worry about stepping on toes at the meeting.

The meeting went amazing! We watched the movie "Feed My Sheep" and I could not keep from weeping. Two little kids go to care for baby lambs all summer with their Dad. A storm had killed all the adult sheep. With the parents gone, and the little lambs not knowing how to eat in a trough because they had never been taught by their mothers, these little kids had to bottle feed every lamb. There was so many little lambs and only two doing the feedings. Many of the lambs were starving to death. Every morning they would find 6 or 7 dead little lambs.

The girl who was tending to the sheep happened to name of of the lambs. She loved the lamb and it followed her faithfully everywhere. One morning she wakes and finds the lamb gone. She goes searching for the lamb and finds it a far way off dead. She gently picks up the now cold lamb and takes it to her father crying. She asks if anything can be done. And as he patted her head and just let her do some needed crying she looked up at her dad and asked, "Isn't there anyone that will help feed our sheep?" To this, my cheeks became uncontrollably wet. I have prayed and cried almost those exact words to Heavenly Father on several occasions. To see sisters/brothers/loved ones fall away, or become spiritually dead--so many that I believe would not have fallen/drifted--had they been properly cared for/feed through the home teaching and visiting teaching programs. I have had some countless nights where I have knelt in anguish of the drop off of flock members. Ones that needed not drop off had they only had the support of loving visiting teachers. No one is a number, but a spiritual daughter/son of God! And just like the trees, there are so many that could be spared, or at least protected from the storms had they just been looked after/cared for by the people over them.

Well true enough to the impressions in the morning, the meeting was already 30 mins over the time limit by the time I was to get up. Even during the presentation the opposition threaten to destroy and make me shut my mouth and just sit down. I am sure to the reader of this, I sound so nuts, but this is how I felt. The meeting ended, and the Lord had gotten me through my moments. I felt heaven had engulfed the room.

Because the meeting had ended later then planned, I dashed out the door to help some girls with their visiting teaching. And as I drove to the appointment, knowing I would not be home for several more hours, I saw the last two slices of banana bread in the bag Jinger gave me. My eyes became wet as I pondered over how the Lord had provided for my needs. Would I have been okay not eating until after 2 when I got home... you bet! But my Father in heaven just proved yet again that he is into details. And he had detailed out for me (by having a wonderful sister in law who I had just been with that morning) run over before she rushed to Salt Lake, and drop off 4 slices of banana bread. Something she has never done before. And here I had breakfast and lunch!! And all because our God, is a God of details/love/kindness/miracles!

Now you may ask, why was it so important to give the lesson and show my little clip? Well I will never know. I have some hunches, for I was able to talk to someone after the meeting that I normally would not have talked to, but even if that was just a little test to see if I would follow through--don't follow my example. Do it, and don't worry/question. Sure I was willing to do it, but my weaknesses, doubts clouded my faith with "what will other stake members think of me if I take up this time/present?" Oh to be quick to obey, and not complain/question in the process, is a beautiful thing I need to work on.

MOSIAH 26:13-15,19

Tonight, I felt impressed I had to get this blog up. But I had not read the Book of Mormon for the day. I just opened to Mosiah 26 and just started to read starting in 13. I started to cry. The Lord knows what is in our hearts! He knows our desires. He knows when we are trying to be better. And he also knows how to comfort and bless us. Don't get me wrong, today was amazing! And there many choice moments basking in His spirit. But even with all that... He led me to read Alma's conflict which seemed completely identical to my feelings/heart this evening. I didn't mean to, but the likening unto ourselves, just came by the spirit as I read. The Lord was talking to me--I cried. And in gratitude thanked Him for allowing me to read such verses. God is, a God of love/compassion.

I know that God lives. I know that Jesus is the Christ, the Prince of peace, the Holy one. I know that they love us. I know that prayers are answered and can be guided/led daily. I am so thankful for repentance! It is real! We can be cleansed and made whole through Christ's atonement.

I hope to leave this life like President Henry B. Eyring quoted his dad while he was approaching his death (this month's Ensign article Teaching True Doctrine):

"My father...talked to me during the nights as he approached death. He spoke of joyous reunions that were coming soon in the spirit world...

At one point I asked him if he had some repenting to do. He smiled. He chuckled softly as he said, “No, Hal, I’ve been repenting as I went along.”"

Thank goodness Heavenly Father, through His Son's atonement has provided a way for me to repent each day and to renew my soul each week...

And may I clarify a bit on my feelings of Visiting/Home teaching. There are times when we will visit and limbs will still brake... and trees will still remain or even choose to go dormant. But we, the Lord's helpers in tending to needs in the field, can be assured that we will know what God would have us do for such trees. We must have the faith, that he will help us/guide us as we lovingly/willingly tend to the branches and our trees.

Oh it has been an amazing handful of days.

The church is true!
