BE GOOD CABLES

The past few weeks have built my confidence in jumping cars--with cables that is! :)

After our ward temple night, Meg called me and asked if I could come and jump her car. What a sight we were to see! Meg’s battery is harder to get to, so we were sticking our cell phones down in the engine to give off a little light so we could see what we were doing. We tried everything, and Meg’s car would not start. We must have adjusted the cables on the car at least 30 times. 20 mins or so into the ordeal, Anthony suggested we say a prayer. I had to chuckle a little at this, because if anyone knows me, saying a prayer or getting a blessing is my answer for most of life problems. But this particular situation, the thought of saying a prayer didn’t even cross my mind. I had to smile a little because Anthony is a convert to the church. So how fitting to have his faith come out in suggesting a prayer. We tried starting the car a few more times, adjusted the cables and then decided a prayer would be a good thing.

Danny was needing to get to the stake offices to be set a part. He said he could do it another time, but he told them he would go that night. So not only the need for the car to work was there, but also the need for Danny to make it to the church in time. A prayer was offered. We thought maybe we had a bad pair of jumper cables. Danny went across the street to ask some folks if we could borrow their cables-but no luck. They didn’t have any. I then saw a guy walking to his car down the hill. I tried to yell as politely as I could, seeing we were right by the temple. The guy heard my call and came over to let us borrow his cables. We hooked up the car again, and this time Meg’s car started right up! Success! And because the Lord is merciful, the Stake President was still at the church, even though Danny was more then 30 mins late. Heavenly Father is so good!

Well, Sunday night Meg stayed with me, and on Monday when she tried to leave, her car had decided to die again. We knew Meg’s cables didn’t work, so I went to a neighbors hours to borrow his. Embarrassing, I had never met this neighbor before... that is a call for repentance for sure! :D Amy, my neighbor grabbed a nice wrapped up set of cables from her car. I thanked her and Meg and I went to work. As I took the cables out of their zipper package, I though how they felt and looked like Meg’s bad set. But this set seemed to be new -- so they should work? RIGHT!? Wrong! We hooked up the cars and nothing happened. Meg thought for sure her battery was just dead, but I had my doubts about the cables we were using. I ran to Bob’s place, right above mine, and knocked on the door. Bob has a pretty big truck and I assumed that he would have to have a nice set of cables to go with his big truck! He pulled his truck over and got out this amazing set of jumper cables. Just one of the black and red clamps (I have no idea what they are called) weighed twice as much as meg’s whole set together. Add all four clamps together and we were looking at some serious, muscle building, jumper cables. Bob’s cables had what looked like earwig pinchers on the ends of the grabbers. Needless to say his cables were quite impressive. Once the car was hooked up right, Meg went into her car-- and what would you know, it started right away! We thanked Bob for helping us out and ran over to Walmart to see if we could make it to the auto apartment before it closed. I could not help but smile on the drive over.

One car,
Died twice.
Needed a charge/jump start
Jumper cables-low quality
- could not do a thing -
Good quality jumper cables
Dead car- got a charge/jump start

What made the difference?! Can’t this be the same for me?

One individual
Died spiritually twice (from heart ache, pain, sorrow, sin, circumstances, loneliness)
Needed a charge/jump start
Non-committed Home/visiting teachers or a non-exercised testimony
-could not do a thing-
Good quality Home/visiting teachers or an exercised testimony
Dead individual- got a charge/jump start

What is so interesting is that Meg thought she was prepared with the jumper cables she had... but when it came right down to it, her set wasn’t good enough.

Oh the need we have for always having/being a good set of jumper cables!! For ourself and for others.

If we will keep our “set” fully charged--then, when we find ourself in a tuff situations, we will be able to get a charge to our batteries. Like-wise when we find others stranded on the road of life, we can be “the cables” who give the charge and jump starts their life again! The cable is us! The eletricity/energy/power that flows through us--is from Heavenly Father!

Will I be a good quality jumper cable in his hand?! If my focus/and energy is not on His work and His glory--from where do I get my power from? Are my cables constantly being prepared by reading the scriptures, praying, and attending my church meetings?

When there is need for a “charge” either for myself, or someone else--WILL I be able to recieve/or give the charge/jump start they need?!

Ha ha, all of this from not having a good set of cables!

Be Good Cables!
